Mörbisch Seefestspiele Shooting

Finally I have few moments to catch up with things. Last weeks got really busy, I knew July would be hectic, but all got really heavy duty. I have been working on the project in Mörbisch by Neusiedler lake, shooting preparations for "Der Bettelstudent" (Beggar Student) by Carl Millöcker, then rehearsals, and finally premiere of the operetta, by the way premiere show was attended by all front politicians of Austrian scene, including Austrian chancellor.

It was really great assignment, I loved the atmosphere around me, people, artists, leading team, whole team. Totally friendly welcome, and full cooperation from everyone. When I needed this or that, there was no problem, nothing was impossible. When you deal with professionals this is how the cooperation looks like. Awesome!

I had some ideas for shots from tower above, we only had to find good time slot, when stage is being rearranged, got dressed up in something dark (to be less visible from the audience), and climbed to the top. Then the real problem were... mosquitos, bloody nuisance. But I am happy with pictures. And this was shot during the show!

I do not think I will forget main photo shoot on the stage, where all was setup for my to take photographs. Great feeling... this time for once I was in spotlight, well, behind the camera but still. Here also comes some sort of pressure. Actually quite a lot of pressure, you have to deliver great pictures and fast! There is no room for error, lost shots, and no time for post processing, colour corrections etc.

Whole team had to go through pictures on location, and select the ones which ended up in printed booklet. Me as photographer had different favourites, but final decision was up to art directors. I had to make sure I get complete footage with all scenes and emotions, and of course all pictures had to be technically ver good, ready for large prints. Right after the shoot selected pictures had to be post processed on the fly, and sent further. So few sleepless nights. But I really enjoyed it! I hope I can shoot more of theatre and opera projects in the future.

Later on, when I had more time, I went through the rest of the footage, and I must say it is not bad, and required very little retouching and I am quite happy with results.

Now August is coming I should have some time for landscapes photography, which I really could not pursue recently. Here's one shot taken about 1km away from the stage, on big close up you could see tops of whole venue.

You can see the show till August 24th - http://www.seefestspiele-moerbisch.at

Cheers
Jerzy
